TEAM CATWALK 2013

Aimee Gillett
Looking for a new goal and focus after getting married in February, I decided to join my husband, Paul on what will be a huge personal challenge.

When I am not training (for my first and potentially last marathon!), I am running my own small patisserie and wedding cake business in Wellington. I enjoy my morning runs around the waterfront but running in New York with thousands of other people will be a new adventure!!!

The opportunity to raise funds for a very worthwhile trust, whilst setting your own personal challenge is always a good thing to be a part of. I have heard such wonderful things about CatWalk and would be proud to raise any funds on their behalf.

Alex Tomlinson
In years to come I’d like to be able to say I contributed in some small way, in being able to assist spinal injury people towards mobility as well as the personal achievement of seeing through something I, as well as a few others (!!!) cast doubt about whether I could do it. I often repeat a phrase, especially to my children, as said to me by Catriona one Xmas, which puts life into perspective, “For me, life’s doing rather than having”.

Ashley Pryde
Hello, my name is Ashley Pryde and I am from Auckland. I grew up with a very active childhood, enjoying horse riding, yachting and skiing. During university I studied fashion design. This has taken me to Footloose Shoes where I am the buyer. I now live in the CBD and am a yoga practitioner, still enjoy skiing and sped a lot of time walking. I took up running a few months ago and ran a 10km race in 1 hour – not too bad I thought! I look forward to an active 2013.

In 2012, my partner and I went to NYC for him to run the marathon. At the registration centre I was so inspired by all the excited runners of all shapes and sizes, I really wanted to be one of them. Having a fit and able body is such a privilege and being able to use my legs for personal goals, such as running a marathon, is something I would like to be able to share with those less fortunate. So, my goal for 2013 is to run the New York Marathon - and the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for Catwalk would make the journey so much more meaningful.

Dave Copley
Managing Director of Trafalgar Copley. I am hugely impressed by the fantastic work the team at CatWalk do and jumped at the opportunity to be part of the Team CatWalk 2013. I was part of Team CatWalk 2012, but unfortunately, due to Hurricane Sandy was not able to run last year. I am back this year more motivated than ever!

Duncan Hawkesby

While a novice runner, completing a marathon is on my ‘bucket list’. When the opportunity came up to run the New York Marathon, myself and five friends jumped at it. That was in 2012 and Hurricane Sandy hit! I am back to tick this off my bucket list as part of Team CatWalk 2013. Fundraising for a magnificent cause such as CatWalk is brilliant. Looking forward to it!

Gavin Craw

I have a business partner who is disabled following a horse riding accident. She made an instant decision to still make the most of her life. She has been to the Paralympics and now is a shareholder in our business. She is an amazing, positive person.

I met Catriona while she was on her South Island Cycle trip this year. What she is able to achieve is inspirational. I was only too happy to join Team CatWalk 2013.

John Petrie

I'm 47 and farm in the Wairarapa. I have 5 awesome children and love being active with them, but not having put on a pair of running shoes for 30 years I decided to do something for myself this year. My brother and two sister-in-laws have all run the New York marathon for CatWalk and loved the experience. My sister Teresa is also running this year, so it didn't take much persuading to be part of such a great event raising money for CatWalk and be part of Catriona's vision.

Having friends involved with CatWalk and seeing their commitment to the trust and watch it grow year after year inspired me to help fundraise for spinal injuries.

Louise Upston

I am the Member of Parliament for Taupo and Senior Government Whip.

The 2013 New York Marathon will be my first 42 kilometre event. As well as being slightly nervous about the race, I can’t wait to get to New York to complete the challenge.

Running a marathon has always been a goal of mine and I’m looking forward to fitting in the training around the hectic schedule of an MP. I’m not your usual athlete and while I’ve done a few half marathons, I’ve only run the whole 21.1km distance non-stop once. And it wasn’t easy.

Taking part in an event of this magnitude is going to put me right outside comfort zone, but I believe it is nothing compared to what those who are dealing with spinal injuries have to go through on a daily basis. My motivation to keep going when the training gets hard is simple: The money we will raise by running the New York Marathon for CatWalk Trust will in the future give more people with spinal injuries greater mobility.

Lynne King

I competed with Catriona for several years and was successful enough to represent NZ eventing on several occasions. I was reserve for the Seoul Olympics and went on to eventually become a NZ Selector. I took up running three years ago and have completed several half marathons and three full marathons. To do the NY Marathon with like-minded people working together as a team to achieve the common goal of fundraising for CatWalk would enhance greatly my own personal achievement.

Marco de Groot

I am a 46 year old father of two beautiful young girls. I was born in Holland and emigrated to NZ in 2004. I now live and work from home in Martinborough. I have been a tennis/squash coach for 25 years and have been interested in sports all my life. My sport experience includes biking from Lhasa to Kathmandu, incl Mt Everest Base Camp in 2002, skating the 120km lake tour of Holland in 1985, the four day 200km walk of Nijmegen in 1998, the Coast to Coast as an individual in 2002, the round Taupo bike race in 2011 and the Amsterdam half marathon in 2012.

I am keen to have the opportunity to join Team CatWalk 2013 – it would be fantastic to combine running my first ever marathon with fundraising and support of such a worthwhile charity. I have been aware of CatWalk for many years and greatly admire the vision and purpose of the charity.

Mark Francis

I’m a 38 year old father of three. My wife Fleur and I are very active and our family is into a wide variety of sports. I have completed five half marathons but this will be my second full marathon. I met Catriona through horse racing a few years ago. I was immediately impressed and inspired by her and when the opportunity came up to run New York with CatWalk in 2012, it was an easy decision. Fantastic cause – fantastic lady – and was a pleasure to be able to contribute in some way. However, Hurricane Sandy had other ideas. Always one to rise to a challenge, I have signed up again for Team CatWalk 2013.

Ollie Bradshaw

Based in Auckland, and working for UBS, I am juggling work, training, and fundraising for this fantastic charity. This will be my second year being part of Team CatWalk. While disappointed at not being able to run in 2012 due to Hurricane Sandy, I loved being part of Team CatWalk and am looking forward to completing this challenge in 2013.

Paul Cable

My wife Aimee and I are delighted to join Team CatWalk and run our first marathon together. I am a mid-30’s corporate who isn’t doing enough to keep in shape! I have never run a marathon before but the chance to join the team, support CatWalk and run New York Marathon was too good to pass up!

CatWalk is a fantastic charity and joining the team gives me the opportunity to achieve a personal goal and support a great cause.

Robbie Aitken

I am a 31 year old Aucklander, who has recently returned to New Zealand after four years in London. Coming home, it felt like a great time to do something new. I love most sports, and while I‘ve done a few shorter runs in my time, I’ve never ticked the box on a marathon, so am pretty happy to do this with New York.

I have always wanted to run the NYC marathon and the chance to join with Team CatWalk was a welcome opportunity. Having spent a small amount of time in a wheelchair myself following an accident, I have a huge respect for those that have it as part of their daily lives. Running for The CatWalk Trust felt like a great fit in this sense given the work it supports.

Teresa Dinan

New Zealand born and bred, Teresa lives in the UK with her husband and children.  A passionate CatWalk supporter, we are delighted to have Teresa join our team!
