OFFICIAL CELEBRATION OF THE MELBOURNE CUP

Date and Time:
3 Nov 2009

The CatWalk Trust is excited to announce that we have been selected as the recipient charity for the First Tuesday Charitable Trust's 2009 'Melbourne Cup Celebration in Cambridge' on Tuesday 3 November.

The world famous Melbourne Cup is a race that stops more than one nation.

It is certainly a major part of the fabric of Australian life as it has been on the first Tuesday in November for nearly 150 years.

Equally it has a proud history in New Zealand and has provided many of our great sporting memories with so many Melbourne Cup winners boasting their origin on the other side of the Tasman.  It attracts many punters in New Zealand to have their once-a-year flutter on the TAB or in their work office sweepstake.

Now the Waipa District is developing a new community event to celebrate the special magic of the Melbourne Cup in the town of Cambridge - the proven breeding ground of more Melbourne Cup winners than any other area of Australia and New Zealand.

In 2009 a new Melbourne Cup celebration has the goal of becoming the closest thing that New Zealand has to offer people to being at Felmington racecourse itself.

Developed by the First Tuesday Charitable Trust, this will become a major business network event and one which will recognize at a community and national level never witnessed before in New Zealand - the importance of the Melbourne Cup to Kiwis.

It will provide people with a fun day out, a chance to dress up, walk among the roses and to mingle with many of the horse racing fraternity who know what winning the Melbourne Cup is all about.  There will be Melbourne Cups on display and many of the famous New Zealand winners will be honoured on this day.

Bookmark the the First Tuesday Charitable Trust's website as they will be posting regular updates, and don't miss your opportunity to become invovled by way of sponsorship or attendance on the day.
