RE/MAX hits heights for CatWalk

Date and Time:
17 Nov 2007

Former All Black Marty Berry and the team from RE/MAX Leaders in Greytown have done it again!

Their recent dine and dance auction night was a resounding success, with over double the amount raised from last year, of which a staggering $15,000 goes to CatWalk.

The night was a huge success for all and after a sumptuous feast, Chris Lay (a new C6-7 tetraplegic) and Catriona Williams (also C6-7) spoke of their experiences of SCI and reminded us of the importance of the night.

It costs the New Zealand government over $300 million annually to look after people with SCI but it’s not only the dollars and cents at stake here … it’s also the complete change of lifestyle as well the impact on family.

CatWalk’s goal is to reduce this cost to the country by supporting scientific research so that we along with similar charities around the world can help prevent and cure the drastic life change for those living with a SCI.

Message delivered, it was then onto the auctions with the guests thoroughly entertained by auctioneer Selwyn Donald.

CatWalk would like to thank the initiative of Marty and his team along with the extremely generous. Without fantastic supporters like RE/MAX Leaders and everyone involved we would not reach our goal of getting people out of wheelchairs and back on their feet.

Special thanks to one of the biggest spenders on the night, Hayim Nachun, managing director of Boulcott Development Group who bought the top priced lot, a 2007 Tri Nations signed All Blacks Jersey.

And of course the team at RE/MAX Leaders can relax, knowing CatWalk has a thorough vetting process for all our applications for funding and that their money will be put to the best possible use. All applications are internationally peer reviewed and then assessed by the Scientific Advisory Committee at the Neurological Foundation. Only the BEST projects with the aim of making a real difference to SCI research will be supported.
