Individual winner Stanley Zhang from Auckland Grammar School
The CatWalk supported 16th annual Brain Bee Challenge was held on 29th June, with one hundred and seventy-two students from 30 North Island schools converging at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland to compete in the Teams and the Individual participant competition.
After an exciting and close-fought competition first place in the team’s event went to Mt Albert Grammar School, with second place awarded to a team from Diocesan School for Girls. Finally, a mixed group of students from Waikato Diocesan School for Girls and Tawa College shared third place.
Stanley Zhang from Auckland Grammar School was this year’s individual competition winner and North Island Brain Bee Champion. Maia O’Callaghan from Carmel College was second and third place went to Chris Pan from Auckland Grammar School. It was a very close competition with only half a mark separating the placings. Stanley will now compete for the New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge Champion title at a virtual online event run out of Australia later in the year. The Australian state/region winners will compete in the same event to determine the Australian Brain Bee champion.
