Dr Jarred Griffin in his new surgery room in Germany. Following his CatWalk-funded PhD at Auckland university, Jarred is now completing a Postdoc at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases in Bonn. Advancing on findings from his PhD, his current research focuses on how rehabilitation strategies can enhance functional recovery following therapeutic interventions. He is utilising cutting-edge technology including “ultramicrocopy” which provides three dimensional imaging of unsectioned spinal cord allowing the visualization of individual neurons and how their growth is affected after spinal cord injury. Such tangible visualization of neurons in three dimensions is at the forefront of medical research and will provide invaluable information of how therapies work.
