That is what a cure means to Sophia. A way to stop her body going into crisis. In June, a blocked catheter sent her body into panic. Her bladder filled, her blood pressure soared. She was rushed to hospital in agony and at risk of a stroke from Autonomic Dysreflexia.

When Gabby says this, she is not talking about a distant dream. She is talking about something many people may not realise is possible for women with spinal cord injury: motherhood.

"Stop telling me to try harder. Do you think I haven’t given it my all? Every time a news story hits the feeds that talks of someone recovering from a spinal cord injury, someone will send it to me..."

“I was struggling to hold things, especially with my left hand,” says Matt. “I’ve had a couple of surgeries over the years. They gave me the ability to open my hand, but I didn’t get the grip. I couldn’t really pick anything up, certainly not anything with any weight.”
